While pole dancing at home isn’t the only way to learn pole, there are a few things you should consider when you begin dancing for the first time:
First, go to a pole studio and sign up for lessons. When I was first introduced to pole dancing, I went to a little studio and took a basic class. As soon as I was done with the lessons, I went again and took an advanced class. I was also able to practice on the pole.
You’re an advanced student and it’s time to take the next step forward. There are a lot of websites and videos available to teach pole dancing. Make sure to check out their site.
Some of the videos on this site are free (as in “free as in beer” or a good deal) so if you find one that looks interesting, go and download it. You can find a lot of these videos on YouTube, but also, in case you’re not sure what to watch, or you don’t have access to a computer, look on YouTube. You can also just look for videos with an ‘o’ for pole, which will link you to some specific websites. I’m really not going to go into too much detail on the YouTube videos, but just know that the first two to three videos are where you’ll see more advanced techniques, such as the “dances” you can make with your partner’s feet (I love dancing on my toes) or how to set up your partner’s body for a different type of pose.
Here’s a sample of one of my videos. I’m dancing with my partner’s feet. I get a little too close and her foot slips out, ruining our pose!
Next, I found the instructor YouTube account, where you can find a whole bunch of dance videos related to pole and how to practice it. If you can’t find one you enjoy, there’s tons of good dance videos on YouTube. You’ll find them on the dancing section, the pole dance section, even on the ‘exotic’ section.
Finally, I went to a local pole dancing studio and just sat in with my partner for a couple of hours to practice. I found it really relaxing. This is only one of many reasons pole dancing is so enjoyable…
What is the price of pole dancing at home? Should I pay a lot of money?
