If you are not strong, what gives you the right to pole dance? (Laughs)
It’s kind of like someone in charge of your kids having sex with your kids. You have no control over it, and therefore, you’re helpless, because you can’t do anything about it. You have to just take the pain and get back up and go do something else. A lot of people do a lot of self-harming stuff just to deal with it. People have taken it to the point where they’re trying to kill themselves for fear of losing their pole or even being suspended.
I think that’s really hard. I’m probably lucky that I did get into pole dancing. I was already on my feet. I was already pole dancing. I had a pole. I did my first aerial. It took no time at all. In fact, one of the reasons I was able to do aerial was because my pole came out with flying colors. (Laughs)
You’re saying that if you had dropped a pole that high—say, one that was more than thirty feet off the ground—would you have just taken the pole down?
Yeah. I wouldn’t have been able to do this dance at all.
But if that pole had fallen, would you have jumped and made some way to get it back up?
I think so.
Well, all the other people who are sitting there like, “You’ve got to jump down on that,” because people with bad legs take the pole to the ground all the time. So you are not the only one—I’ve been on the ground with a pole, and someone’s on it that’s ten feet off the ground, and they just jumped or tried to stand or something because they couldn’t move or something. If they couldn’t move, they just pushed it up and ran down the steps or something, and the pole fell to the ground and it just rolled the whole way and got dropped. It’s very hard for me to make the same judgement as other people. I’m not saying that everyone must jump down on the pole and get it back up on top of their head. But in my opinion, it’s a very different situation.
So you were able to do the aerial dance?
Yes, I was able to do it.
And then the next stage was pole dancing. Was that something more advanced than the aerial dance?
Yes, there was a
