Do you need to be perfect to be a pole dancer? Well, the answer is: No. But it’s also possible that pole dancing isn’t as bad as advertised. This is why pole dancing can work for you and not for them. It’s also why my advice to them is: It’s OK for you to be weak. You really do need to be strong to pole dance.
There have been a few people I know who have made the jump from dancing to pole dancing, have been given the opportunity by teachers to become great pole dancers, and at the end decided to make the switch to a pole dance path. These people are the ones who are most likely to respond favorably to my advice to them. Why do I say this? Because the strength of the person in the room has no bearing on the effectiveness of the advice. When you are teaching someone to pole dance, you’re not competing against the strength of that individual, you’re competing against the strengths of the audience. If you’re a good teacher, it will be easy for you to get into the audience of their friends and family, and convince them of their own strength. But the same goes for any group of people with a different idea. If you want to be very good at pole dancing, you don’t have to have a lot of strength. You can learn to be good without being a giant, or to have a lot of endurance, or to be able to jump high into the air and still have enough balance to make it look comfortable, or the ability to dance the simple dance steps.
But there are two main ways to do this: You can increase the number of moves on the basic circle dance, or you can increase the number of moves in the extended circle dance. So, do either of these if you are trying to become better at pole dancing:
Increase the number of moves on the basic circle dance. (For example if everyone’s circle dance is like this, a single step is all they have, maybe two.) This should make up at least 50% of your rotation at the pole dancing lessons. The number of moves varies from pole to pole, so pick a number that works for you. It will also have to be easier to do since you’ll be dancing with a group of people you don’t know very well at first. So keep in mind the challenge factor! If everyone’s circle dance is like this, a single step is all they have, maybe two. The number of moves varies from pole to pole
