Absolutely, you do. Pole dancing is an extremely strong sport; it requires strength to have that physical connection with your partner, yet being skilled at pole is more than a skill. It’s a way to be. You will feel stronger when you dance with someone. It’s not about learning to dance from your teacher- the experience you learn during pole dancing will carry over to later dancing and dancing with someone. If you’ve never danced with someone before your pole dancing experience does not begin till dancing with someone.
How long will I have to practice before I can get competitive? If you’re dancing professionally for a full 5 hours a day 5 days a week for 5 weeks, you can compete in a Pole Dance competition 5-10 months before your competition date. Once that’s out of the way, the rest of it really just takes practice. You will also have a much richer and fuller body and mind. It will be difficult to keep up this intensity continuously, but most people can. There is so much you can do in a day. The harder the day is, the more rewarding it gets to keep going.
Do I need a good pole dancer partner? Yes, definitely. It takes the physical connection between you and your partner to be great. But you do not be a part of that. You have to see yourself as a great partner who wants the same thing as you do.
What’s the best thing about pole dancing? When your life is filled with something great and enjoyable, dancing is an absolute essential part of that life. It doesn’t matter if you’re sitting cross legged, walking or moving in all types of environments that you’re forced to dance.
