We often talk in the community about how it’s important to learn and practice the same exercises over and over again, and it seems very important for you to get in those exercises right away! You may not be a very good dancer yet, but the pole moves are simple and very useful for beginners.
If you are really good at pole, you might be able to move around faster and better, and the extra movement you can generate will help when you start to practice with a partner. So make sure that the moves you do are easy and fast and well-thought out – if it’s difficult, try something else, or use a technique from another program!
As an added bonus, you will start developing your pole style faster because your technique will be less likely to become sloppy. It also can help you with your balancing – since you will move more quickly on the pole, it helps your partner to stay balanced when you are dancing, which is very important for pole dancing. Try dancing on the pole with other people with whom you have done this – it will help you in your dancing!
Also, don’t forget that while your partner is dancing, you’ll be doing the same moves as well! So it’s important to practice together, even if you are just dancing and have no experience or training in the field.
If you don’t feel good about being able to move well on the pole for long, we also recommend training more pole styles, like kendros, back to back to back, front to front, or half body (the same moves over and over again, from one pole to another).
A quick note on Pole Practice
We get asked a lot “how much time should I spend on pole dancing?”. Before we answer our readers, let’s break down what we mean by “wasting time” on pole dancing. What we mean is it’s important for you to be able to have some fun while practicing and we recommend that you stick to it if you can. As most of our readers have told us, they spend most of their time on the ground when they are practicing… and there is nothing wrong with that. So the good news is, you don’t need to waste your time… You just might need to start using your legs more!
For us, doing exercises on the pole also helps you develop more pole skill, which is really nice for beginners, beginners with a partner, and for those who want to have a more dynamic and fun dance
