Where did it all start?
One of the earliest of all dance forms was, and still is, pole dancing, which dates back to the year 1045 in Europe and dates back even farther to the time of the ancient Egyptians. The origin of pole dancing is debated as to whether or not it is a modern phenomenon or was actually just an ancient form. In any case, if it ever originated in the ancient world it would certainly have been very prominent. People are known to dance around their homes and on the street on any given holiday, sometimes with very little notice to those around them. They are known to have a dance around themselves in the nude or on top of the furniture.
Even today some people are known to dance to music in the nude. For example, a famous pole dancer in America is called “the Naked Cowboy” while in Mexico’s Baja California area a certain city is named “the Naked City,” where men can walk around on the street freely if they do not wear clothes.
Also in Mexico there are two “Naked Streets” in the city of Guanajuato and one in the state of Jalisco.
In the United States, the most famous performer is the celebrated Pole Dancing Queen from Los Angeles, California.
Where does pole dancing originate?
The origin is unknown, but pole dance is not an entirely new thing. It is said that as early as 1550 AD, the people of ancient Egypt were dancing on the rocks of the Nile to their “Om” (also known as the Goddess Amun) whom they believed was one of the gods; and she was known from Egypt as the “Lady of the Nile.” Some people believe the ancient Egyptians were also dancing to their own “Om” which was considered to be the goddess Dione.
The Greeks may have also danced around their homes on the ground in some form.
However, in the early modern period, people began to dance around the walls of town, creating a circle called a “pole dance” (a word with no clear definition) that they danced to their neighbors while they were drunk. Around this time, the word “pole” did not mean just a circle, but rather included a “pole” which was considered a part of the home. In fact, pole dancing, or bardotas, could be traced to a time when dancing around the house was a punishment.
It seems that pole dancing continued to grow and develop throughout the 16th
