There are many benefits of social dance, but perhaps the most appealing is that it is a community activity. The best way to see it in action is in the movies. People have been dancing at night and in the daytime. The majority of dancers in most of the major cities are people of color, and as a result, don’t know how to dance. The choreography by professional dancers is beautiful, but often very simple.
The benefits of social dancing are more complex for some dancers. They may like to meet new people, they learn a few moves, or they practice and gain confidence.
The main benefit of social dancing is the bonding. Social dancers become closer together, learn teamwork skills, and form groups that enjoy dancing together in social settings.
While there are many benefits, one of the best attributes of social dancing is it has an impact on social health.
Social dancing is a powerful tool for the prevention of several common illnesses. Some of the illnesses that are reduced by social dancing include allergies, asthma, and eczema.
The number of illegal immigrants in the United States has been estimated to be well over 11 million. That’s enough people to fill nearly 1.5 million Washington D.C. pizza boxes. How big of a pizza box should we give them?
To try to find answers to that sort of question, I used a little-known data source in order to estimate how many illegal immigrants live in the nation’s capital. Here’s the methodology I used.
(I started with 2012 data: the Office of Refugee Resettlement reported the number of aliens who sought asylum in 2012 to a Congressional Research Service web page.)
What You Do
It turns out that our city has a population of 790,000. That means that roughly 1.5 million (or 10 percent) of everyone living in this city were immigrants.
I started with the figure of 1.5 million illegal immigrants living in D.C. The official Washington Department of Citizenship and Immigration’s projection (page 5) is 790,000 aliens seeking asylum.
For example, that means that there are 2,000 illegal immigrants awaiting immigration courts to review their asylum claims. But I didn’t count those.
Including those people, I estimated that there are around 15,000 aliens living in the Washington D.C. area.
If we assume 1 in 10,000 illegal immigrants come to federal officials to apply for asylum in the United States
