Is spray paint water based?

Well, not necessarily that I know of. But the one downside is that it’s a little smelly. I’ve had people asking if it was dangerous when I spray-painted my car with it, and I don’t think I can get anyone to believe it is if they don’t have a little more knowledge about what is truly in spray paint. Some people have been sprayed with spray paint, even though the paint was not water based, and even though it looks like it and smells like it. I mean, why not try and get a test of yourself so you can be sure? If you are concerned about your ability to handle a water based solvent, then consider using alcohol water based paints. If you are still concerned about the smell then this might not be the spray paint that you are looking for. This is a very strong solvent – very corrosive to metals. You do have a few choices for paint thinner – most probably for the high end. Here are the main ingredients:

5% Baking Soda

3% Water

1% Water

You will have to watch out for this one. Not that I will be explaining how to do that so much as reminding you that if you are going to give it a try that you should be cautious when it comes to spraying.

Anyway, back to the soap. I’m not going to describe what it looks like. You can buy soap for about a dollar a box at most pharmacies. If you are going to try a chemical like this do it in small volumes. In this case, 2oz can easily work for a large project. You will use about 1 tsp. to start. Do not do more than that or they may clog your paint. I find that using about 1 tsp. makes it very difficult to remove the residue and to get off any oil on your car. The best way to think about it is that you have to be very careful.

There you have it. Spray paint is chemical free and safe. You may have seen the little white circle on the picture above on a few of the more expensive cars. That is where your paint sample came from. So, I hope that this helps anyone that has gotten into the experiment without knowing this stuff. Have you ever seen one of these? I certainly didn’t.

One of my favorite parts from the last three months of the season is watching the guys who play quarterback and tight end for the Steelers. It’s always nice to see a guy make the NFL. One
