God’s written word says otherwise. (2 Tim 2:13).

To many Christians, swearing is a very serious matter. It’s seen as an attack on their religion. But it is wrong.

We all swear, but just look at what we can prove.

Just from reading this blog, you’ll see there is a HUGE difference between what people swear, and swearing to God’s written Word.

You can’t swear about anything, and you can’t swear to any specific word, but we still say things like:

I will kill or defile a child of God.

I will commit adultery with a married woman.

I will steal.

I will lie.

I will cheat on my wife.


I will steal your property.

I’ve committed adultery.

I’ll murder that child of God.

I will be the first to commit adultery. (Proverbs 2:8-9).

Here, we are not talking about an innocent word, but an evil and violent one.

What does this mean?

“I hate murder; I hate adultery; I hate a wife, I hate anyone who is committing adultery” (Proverbs 3:21)

Or

“I hate thieves; I hate liars; I will always be a watchman over a widow” (Proverbs 9:19)

It may not be a big deal, but those two commands do teach us something. If you have made your life hard enough to hate sin, do you really need to be so hard on those who break yours too?

Now we aren’t talking about a particular word, but the entire moral code of the word. We’re not talking about a specific time or place or thing, but it is clear how you can swear in general.
