Can I work at home?
Yes! If you qualify for a woodworking certificate, you cannot legally work at home. However, the training at your school can be invaluable in developing an independent life, and you’re probably already familiar with how to do some woodwork, such as joining and sawing in.
What should I do if I get my first job at my workplace?
You’ll need to look for another job for several years until one is found. As part of the apprenticeship, you’ll have to show you can do a good job. If you think your skills are weak, it’s good to know that you’re a valuable resource to the shop as a learning resource, which will be helpful when it comes time to apply for a job.

We strongly encourage anyone interested in woodworking to make an appointment at a school for a free trial program. They’ll prepare you for a real job in the industry and give you valuable career guidance as they give you the tools to succeed.
Who can work at my work place?
If you’re under 28 years old, you need minimum 30 paid hours of work experience. If you’re under 28, you can’t work at your workplace and you need to find work at an internship or a summer work program for an internship of at least half the required hours of experience.

It takes anywhere from four to six years to earn your certificate. After that you’ll need to learn more advanced skills and experience to become an apprentice. After gaining your first certificate, you need to complete a series of continuing education credits in order to keep on learning.
